we cut 22% last month. i'm still here. nobody told me how heavy this part would be. the meetings are quiet. the slack channels that used to have inside jokes are dead. you walk past empty desks and you remember a specific conversation you had at that desk. leadership wants us to "move forward" and "focus on execution" and they keep using the word "right-sized" like it's a verb. nobody believes it. the thing i wasn't prepared for: survivors guilt is real and it doesn't go away in a week. i'm taking on the work of people who got cut and i don't know if i'm doing it because i care or because i'm scared i'm next. if you're a manager right now: please just be a person. drop the corporate language. your team can tell.
